According to Tart113,
there are at present so many questions without an answer that
a general theory is just not feasible. The model in Fig. 27 is
obviously an informational model. But being able to gain information
about a physical object without sensorial perception raises the
question: "which are the object properties that can be psychically
detected ?"114.
The idea put forward is that physical objects has a certain active
"psychic" property, or that it could be activated psychically
by the subject, and it is then
stated115
that the experimental results obtained so far only refer to
surface configurations and have not yet penetrated the inner molecular
properties of the physical objects. Regarding the "channel"
of Fig. 27, it is suggested that this is not through the space-time,
but that it could exist outside space-time, just as telepathic
experiments seem to show. "The decoder" shall put the
received information in a form that can be processed by the neuronic
nervous system, and Tart raises the question of how is the required
information selected from the multitude of PMSF signals; is there
a mental structure, a specific organ to do this decoding ?
Although the model in Fig. 27 leaves several
questions open, it has the merit of offering a general framework
of ordering the ESP processes. Considering the model type B described
in the previous section, a connection could be established and
the telepathic processes could be explained via the mental
field having properties entirely different from those of the
electromagnetic field. The channel of Fig. 27 would be the mental
field, while the decoder will be the connection between the mental
field and its neuronic support. However, this model could explain
the MPPS processes only if we admitted that the mental wave could
explore a physical object, i.e. giving psychic properties to an
inert object, in contradiction to all experimental evidence. On
the other hand, our model type C could explain telepathy in a
manner similar to model B, but also the MPPS phenomena. If the
mental wave developed in orthoexistence from or into an informational
material substance, being the physical support for any substance
from the existence, then these will have a certain contact inside
the orthoexistence. Then the physical object will not have
any psychical property and will need not be psychically activated,
but will have an indirect contact with the mental wave. The
mistake of parapsychology is that is does not operate like psychology,
i.e. that it considers the psychic beyond its contact with the
nervous system. In our opinion, parapsychology should be a new
informational physics and its entire way of approach should be
changed. We consider that the psychic can only appear in relation
with a material support, a nervous system, a biological machine;
it cannot be disconnected from the biological aspect. And this
allows for one of the ingredients to be made of a less usual substance,
nevertheless physical. But to attribute to inert physical matter
psychic properties would mean to consider the psychic outside
the nervous system, i.e. something in itself. Charles A. Tart
leaves one believe that objects could have psychic
properties116,
and that we are not prepared toapproach "the big problem of spirit vs
matter"117.
Similarly Lawrence Le
Shan118
says: "materialistic metaphysics that gave us the industrial
revolution now destroys us", that showing his mystical orientation,
just as other researchers dealing with psy phenomena.
Fig. 27
Since it seems that in telepathy space plays
no role, and that the phenomenon takes place through orthoexistence,
this means that time also may not play an essential role. A relative
disregard of time was noticed in some ESP phenomena that have
a precognitive aspect. The ESP phenomena sometimes appear like
they are not conditioned from cause to effect, but rather like
they "fall simultaneous in time", something that CarlG. Jung calls
"syncronicity"119
.In his view, syncronicity is a "psychological relativity
of space and time" that eliminates the cause-effect relationship
and permits precognition. According to Jung, this negates materialism
and allows for transcendental spiritual existence. We observe
that orthoexistence could, in principle, produce some unusual
psychological effect through an equivalent compression of space
and time. Since in our universe, as Jung
admits120,
the cause-effect relationship can not be in doubt, being connected
to movement and to the energy existent in the universe (Fig. 28),
then syncronicity is seen as a connection through contingency,
when cause-effect in space and time can not be thought of.
Fig. 28
Considering certain experimental evidence
regarding the psy phenomena, one notes that they display precognitive
or postevent aspects only about the actual time, and not over
the whole history of the existence and of the universe. Only short
deviations from the experimentator's actual time are noticed in
such psy phenomena. They could reflect certain particular properties
of orthoexistence, but we need not imagine orthoexistence as a
timewise chaos, nor as a voluntary spirit in which any order and
root of cause-effect disappears what so ever. We do not consider
orthoexistence as a spirit outside the material order. Due to
our space-time existence we find it difficult to develop a thinking
for something that were outside these coordinates, but an effort
should be done. The most appropriate image would be that of space
or time neighboring phenomena compressed into orthoexistence,
one over the other, like successive layers. The mutual interference
between time neighbors compressed into orthoexistence could explain
the aspects of time relativity notice in some psy phenomena. However
the cause-effect relationship in an order specific to orthoexistence
would still be present. The aspects that Jung touches are those
of the relationship between space-time existence and orthoexistence
in connection with those sides of mental activity that come into
contact with orthoexistence.
Although the psycho-kinetic phenomenawere subject to
controversies121,
stating that they are just perceptive, visual aberration, certain
experimental data also exists. Edward Duke from Duke University
experimented with psychic influencing the movements of water drops
or of ions in a solution subject to an electric
field122.
It is stated that the statistical results were interesting and
significant, but it does not say in which way. On the other hand,
the model offered123
by Charles A. Tart for psycho-kinetic phenomena (Fig. 29) is not
consistent since it assumes the brain to be able to muster some
type of energy to act upon matter (some type of amplified psychic
or spiritual energy). However no experimental, or conceptual,
justification can be found for such an energy. Besides, such energy,
once triggered, should pass through the channel that previously
was meant for information transmittal. We cannot accept such a
model. However, if we consider our model type C, we could say
the following: We saw that through beingness and the mental field
one could reach the deep informational matter. But any elementary
particle in the universe should contain some informational substance
determining its characteristics and interaction laws. If we were
to act through beingness into orthoexistence, and if we knew how
to influence the informational zones that sustain the substance
of the physical object we are interested in, then we could influenceit.
